When you get a new car on a car lease or a vehicle subsscription it will come with a manufacturers warranty as standard, this is usually for at least three years.
But what is the warranty and what does it cover?
A warranty is a guarantee provided by the manufacturer of the vehicle for a set period of time. They will repair or last case scenario, replace youe car if required/
The manufcaturers warranty does not cover everything and it is there to sort out problems that are the fault of the manufacturer, not those that have been caused by the driver or naturally through wear and tear.
What do the manufacturers cover under the warranty?
Each car manufacturer has its own terms for their warranty cover, whilst these are all very similar, there can be some major differences that make it worth while to pick up the documents and give them a read.
To help with finding out what is covered by each of the manufacturers, we have provided links below to the most popular car manufacturers and a link to their warranty cover conditions:
A manufacturers warranty typically covers any repairs that are required due to a fault. It doesn’t cover items such as brakes, clutch, tyres, window wipers or lights as these are classed as consumable items. Consumables naturally wear over time so itis understood why these aren’t covered by the warranty.
If there is a fault that causes an issue with a consumable and this wears prematurely, then this should be covered.
Does a lease or subscription car come with a warranty?
As the majority of our subscription cars (or short-term lease vehicles) are brand new, it will come with the standard manufacturers warranty. This is one of the major positives to subscribing or leasing a new car through Cocoon Vehicles.
The lenght of the warranty is set by the manufacturer, but the majority of the standard lengths is usually covered when taking a car on one of our fixed or flexible short-term solutions.
In the unlikely event that your car develops a fault, you can take the vehicle to any of the car manufacturers dealerships for repair under the warranty. If you need any additional help with this, please do contact our team.
If you car is in for a warranty repair for an extended warranty, then you might be entitled to a courtesy vehicle, although this is not guaranteed.
There might be a number of scenarios where your vehicle is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, these include mis-fueling, tyre damage or general servicing. If a maintenance package is included on the vehicle, this may be covered by this.
Is Maintenance Included?
Not all of our short-term contracts include maintenance as standard, but can be added for a monthly fee to offer true fixed-cost motoring.
Depending on the terms of the maintenance contract, the package should include most consumables that a standard vehicle manufacturers warranty wouldn’t. It is worth noting that tyres are not always part of a maintenance package and neither is accidental damage.
Maintenance also covers routine services to keep your car compliant with the terms and conditions of the agreement and to keep the warranty valid.
With MOT’s all new cars in the UK, won’t require one until the car reaches 3 years old. We do have subscription customers who keep there vehicles beyond 3 years and if you have a maintenance package, MOT’s are included.
