Happy Plate Day – 70 Plates

October 29, 2020

70 Plates Launch Today

Today is the 1st September 2020! and that means that the 70 Plate cars and vans have arrived and wow, are we busy!

With cars lined up to go out every day for the next few weeks, our phone lines may take a little longer to answer and emails may also have a delayed reply, but we’re working extremely hard to make sure all of our customers and future clients are dealt with in the usual “Cocoon” manner.

So what does the 70 Plate mean?

For those not in the know, the UK issues a new plate change every 6 months on the 1st March and the 1st September. Any vehicles issued after the 1st September 2020 will receive a 70 plate.

The registration plate system that is being used today was introduced in 2001, many people find this difficult to work out but we’re here to help.

First Two Letters

The two letters at the beginning of the number plate refers to the regional DVLA office where it was issued. For example if the vehicle was registered local to the Cocoon Vehicles office, it would start with an “F” – This stands for Forest & Fens. If it were to start with “L” – it wud have been registered in London.

Two Numbers

The two numbers following the DVLA memory tag tells you the year that the plate was issued. This is where it can get complicated as this year is 2020, vehicle plates issued in March would be designated with 20 plates. Yet those issued in September would be 70 plate.

The Last Three Letters

The last three letters at the end of the number plate are completely random, this is to help improve the amount of combinations available.

Green Plates for Electric Cars

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed on the 16th June 2020, that any zero emission vehicles such as the Tesla Model 3 and the Renault Zoe, will be allowed to display green plates.

This is the help identify zero emission vehicles, helping local authorities design and put in place new city centre policies and encourage greener driving.

You will be allowed to display the green number plates from the 1st September 2020.
