Number of rapid chargers in the UK up 37% in 2020

The latest Government data has shown that the United Kingdom’s Electric Vehicle Charging Network has increased by 37% in 2020.

As of the 4th January 2021, there were 20,775 public Electric Vehicle chargers in the United Kingdom, of this 3880 were rapid chargers.

Data relaeased by the Department for Transport in conjunction with Zap Map also revealed “uneven geographical distribution” of public chargers acrosss the UK.

In the United Kingdom, there are 31 public chargers per 100,000 people; 31 per 100k in England, 26 per 100k in Wales, 40 per 100k in Scotland and 17 per 100k in Northern Ireland.

In England, there is also a massive difference between the various regions with London at 69 public chargers per 100,000 people, followed by the South-East at 31 and 28 for the South-West.

Lowest regions include North-West and Yorkshire and the Humber with 19 chargers per 100k whilst the West Midlands have 20 per 100k.
