Optional Extras that will make a difference to re-sale

Choosing a car can be difficult at the best of times, but once you’ve decided which make/model to go for, then its time for choosing a few optional extras.

But which optional extra’s should you add, and which ones will actually make a difference when it comes to part exchaing your car for a new one. We cover the top 3 optional extras that should make a sdifference at trade-in time.

Top 3 Optional Extras

Air Conditioning

Whilst most modern cars come with Air Conditioning nowadays, if you’re opting for a basic car, then you may need to put your hand in your pocket.

Depending on the vehicle, by adding air conditioning it can make a huge difference to its value when it comes to part exchanging the vehicle.

If you’re going for a premium brand vehicle, then pay the additional and go for climate control. The on-board temperature sensors keep the car at a constant temperature, with some models giving you control of different zones in the vehicle.

Satellite Navigation

Even with the introduction of connectivity options such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, Sat Nav can have a big impact on the value of your vehicle at trade-in time.

We’ve know for it to have a £3,000 difference on a few of the Audi’s we had on our short-term car lease fleet a few years ago, yet it was only a £1250 option to add this at the order stage.

Its especially important on the premium brands such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Volvo, so dig deep and tick that box.

Automatic Gearboxes

The days of the manual vehicles are slowly disappearing into the history books, modern automatics can be more fuel efficient, smooth and easier to drive in the city traffic.

Whilst automatic options can add on average £1,500 to £2,500 to the vehicle price, you should see this back at the point of part exchange. Especially when it comes to premium car brands such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

If you are going for something like a super-mini or basic hatchback, stick(-shift) with the manual. Not that many people want smaller cars with an auto box, so no benefit will be added to the trade-in value of the car.
