The Mercedes-Benz EQA is everything that you would want when it comes to a premium compact SUV, based on the GLA this vehicle offers a quality car with the benefit of it being kinder with the taxman if you are a company car driver.
Why we love it…
The Mercedes-Benz EQA is a very popular car when it comes to our business customers, with company car drivers taking advantage of the lower Benefit-in-Kind (BiK). But we love it as Mercedes hasn’t made a fully electric car too much like a futuristic outcast, retaining some of the modern looks of the Mercedes brand that we love.
It’s nippy and is ideal for city driving, getting away from the traffic lights or grabbing that gap in the traffic. On the motorway you can really burn the miles off comfortably, much better, we feel, than the Volkswagen Id.3.
We drove the Mercedes-Benz EQA 250+ 140kW AMG Line Premium for two weeks, we saw an achievable range of around 220 miles, this was with heated seats on and the clikmate control giving us some warmth in June (2023).
Inside
The internals of the EQA very much comes from its sibling the GLA, virtual cockpit, centralised touchscreen and a centre console with very few knobs and switches.
As always the MBUX and Hey Mercedes features are on this car, but we had to turn the “Hey Mercedes” prompt off as it would activate during normal conversation or the kids laughing in the back. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is onboard, we tried the former and works perfectly and prefer it over the built-in Sat Nav.
The Mercedes staple Artico man-made leather is comfortable and durable, and the driver seat provides plenty of adjustments to get comfortable.
Driving
The nippiness of the electric motor makes the driving of this compact SUV so much fun, it’s stable on corners and the power only really drops off at 50 to 70mph.
Give it some stick and the range does drop quite a bit, but drive it leisurely and you can really save the battery from dropping with one occasion we would have managed almost 285 miles on a charge.
Charging is pretty good and we used Instavolt’s system do give us 150 miles in around 15-20 minutes.
Boot Space
The boot space is smaller than the GLA, but even at 340 litres, we still had space for our pushchair, a couple of cabin bag suitcases and coats (yes it is still June). It is plenty big enough for 2 adults and two younger children.
Drop the seats and the space increases to 1,320 litres.
Conclusion
The EQA is a great little car for company car drivers and those with small families it is ideal unless you need to load the car with large suitcases for that 2 week holiday. We love the technology in the Mercedes and their system is excellent especially with Apple CarPlay integration.
We do feel that anyone who opts for this car, will not be disappointed.
