The top 3 child seats on the market, as tested by the Cocoon Team

October 29, 2020

Safety is key when it comes to your children, and getting the right car seat is crucial. The choice of child seats is massive and with Mothercare now closing its doors, its not so easy to go and try them out.

But, here at Cocoon Vehicles we’ve been trying and testing 8 different models and we’ve whittled these down to our top 3.

Top 3 Child Seats

These car chairs might not be for everyone, it all depends on your vehicle and your kids, but all of the chairs test have been tried in the following models:

  • Mercedes GLE Estate
  • Tesla Model 3 Saloon
  • Kia Picanto
  • VW Transporter Kombi

Ickle Bubba Solar ISOFIX Car Seat

We’re big fans of the Ickle Bubba brand with a pushchair of theirs already in our boot, but their seat is really good.

It has 3 position recline and is suitbale for children from 9kg to 36kg. It also has the top tether ISOFIX+ system which along with the normal ISOFIX fittings is easy to fit and locate onto the car’s brackets.

It is forward facing only so is only suitable for children over 9kgs but there is plenty of padding for support which can be removed as your child grows.

Cost is between £169 and £190, which is really reasonable.

Graco Junior Maxi Lightweight Booster Seat

Laws have changed quite a lot over the years when it comes to children in your car, and booster seats are now required until your child is over 12 years old or more than 135cm tall.

So booster seats are something you need to look at when they reach 15kg or over, however, we do advise that you keep a normal car seat for as long as possible.

This Graco Booster Seat is not only reasonable and sturdy, but is very easy to fit and comfortable for your child. It has a height adjustable headrest and armrest and if allowed, a cupholder which is retractable.

The price of these is between £30 and £40 which is really reasonable.

Joie Spin 360 Car Seat

Our favourite out of all of the car chairs is the Joie i360 Spin Car Chair. But its by far the easiest to fit!

The seat, once in your vehicle, is easy to use, you can rotate the chair to make getting your child in and out of the car less effort. On top of this its both rear facing and forward facing.

Its suitable for children from birth up to 4 years old or 18kgs. So it will need replacing by a booster seat when they go above this.

It has various recline positions depending on how upright you want your child to sit and plenty of padding, which is all detachable.

Getting it in to the car is a pain. Its very heavy, awkward and difficult to locate the ISOFIX points. It takes some adjusting to get the seat to fit snug and show green (this lets you know its fitted right.) But once in, it is worth the hassle.

We wouldn’t recommend this chair if you swap vehicles on a regular basis, but if you need a chair thats easy to use, covers a good age range from birth and feels solid, this is it!
